the gift of heaven: a poem.

When the pain of losing one we love

Makes minutes feel like years

We cling to God above

Who longs to wipe away our tears

Reminding us that death

Does not have the final say

For God made a way through His Son

That we would be reunited one day

So through the aches of suffering

As we hurt and as we mourn

We look ahead to Heaven

Where death will be no more

Days filled with joy and free from pain

In God’s holy courts together

He will wipe away each tear

And suffering will cease forever

It was for the gift of Heaven

That our Lord endured the cross

So that death would not have victory

And our hope would not be lost

God Himself bore the weight of sin

That His sacrifice would be our gain

He cries with us as we grieve

For He understands our pain

So when we miss our loved ones dearly

And it seems too much to bear

We can cast our cares on Jesus

And rest in His love and care

He longs to carry our burdens

To walk with us as we cope

To free us from our sorrows

And restore our hearts with hope

For our time on Earth is not the end

And death is not goodbye

We fix our eyes on Heaven

For by Jesus’ death, we’re given life
