palms up: a poem.

I want to know which path to take

Should I act or sit tight?

Which way is wrong, which way is right?

And which road do you have me on?

I want a red or green light

Isn’t everything black and white?

Help me to live palms up

Instead of with closed hands

I know this life requires me

To fully trust your plans

So I’m letting go of expectation

I’m learning to rest and to just be patient

To trust you while I walk in the unknown

You’re doing something good

And good thing I don’t need to know

I like to be in charge

I want to be in on your plans

But when I think I have all the answers

You prove me wrong again

Yet you tell me not to fear

Cause in your presence I’m safe

If you always gave me green lights

Then what’s the point of faith?

I’m learning to live palms up

Instead of with closed hands

I know this life requires me

To fully trust your plans

So I’m letting go of expectation

I’m learning to rest and to just be patient

To trust you while I walk in the unknown

You’re doing something good

And good thing I don’t need to know

I’m learning to run the race

Even when I don’t see the finish line

I believe that all things

Will work out in your time

So I’m letting go of expectation

I’m learning to rest and to just be patient

To trust you while I walk in the unknown

You’re doing something good

And good thing I don’t need to know
